制作の中で喜びを感じる瞬間がある。それは「良いものができた」という類

いのものではなく、「読みがあたった」というものである。まるで人まかせ

で制作しているような言回しであるが、あながち外れてもいない。　　　　

私は布と蠟と染料を素材として制作している。素材には特性があり、それぞ

れに「布＝繊維に何らかの構造を持たせたもの」「蠟＝撥水性を持ち、熱を

加えると液化するもの」「染料＝水に溶けることで繊維に吸収されるもの」

と考えている。私はこれら素材の特性を利用した制作を目的とし、結果を予

測し、その工程を考え、実行する。すると素材は私の予測が正しかったかど

うか、具現した姿を見せ、私はその結果に一喜一憂するのである。　　　　

There is a moment in my creative process when I feel delighted.

It's not necessarily because I'm doing a good job. Rather,

I feel this way when my instinct proves to be right.

At this time, it seems like someone else is doing the work.

Yet, the work reflects my true feelings.

I use cloth, wax and dye in my creations.

Each material has its own characteristic.

The fiber of cloth provides structure.

Wax doesn't melt in water but yields to heat.

Dye melts in water and adds color.

I use these elements in my work and I always try to predict the results.

I also anticipate the process before starting.

The work shows whether I was right or not.

If my instinct proves to be right, then I feel delighted.
